Otranto and surroundings

Salento is a vast plain that goes from the messapico isthmus, between Taranto and Brindisi, to Santa Maria di Leuca. It features two coasts: the eastern Adriatic one and the one on the west side, along the Ionian coast. Here the two seas meet and the Cape of Otranto is the most easterly point of Italy. In the southern part, Salento has modest elevations which are called Serre Salentine. Along the Adriatic Salento low rocky shores shooting toward the Otranto Canal start again, with their high and jagged character with a strong presence of coves, caves and cliffs.
