This city has at least three souls: a tourist, a culture and a modern one as evidenced by the various architectural works, with a strong modern attitude, such as the Ponte del Mare and the Ponte Flaiano.
Most of Abruzzo is composed of mountains and here is one of the highest mountains in Italy: the Gran Sasso. The entire territory is divided into several national parks, which protect the landscapes, flora and fauna of this marvelous region.
The National Park of Abruzzo and the Majella National Park are, from April to November, a destination for many hiking and trekking enthusiasts and, during the rest of the year, a destination for winter sports lovers. Abruzzo is the region, along the central Apennines, where it is possible to find the highest number of ski resorts.
The most famous are certainly Roccaraso and Rivisondoli, always considered the birthplace of parthenopean winter tourism. The area boasts the most elegant and equipped stations of Abruzzo, which meet in the Alto Sangro Ski Area, offering tourists over 100 km of slopes. The main ski lifts are located on Monte Aremogna, Monte Pratello and Monte Pizzalto and right along the slopes of these mountains there are numerous hotels.
Another point of great skiing interest is immersed in the wonderful Majella National Park. Skiing in this area means experiencing the unique thrill of descending to the valley, on skis or on snowbord boards, enjoying a breathtaking sea view. There are very few mountains that allow you to experience emotions like this.
If Roccaraso and Rivisondoli are the point of reference for Neapolitan tourists, Ovindoli, a precious village born on the slopes of Mount Magnola, is for skiers coming from the capital. The slopes here, are varied and fun, some suitable for more experienced skiers, as in the case of the Pistone, which allows you to cover 540 meters of uninterrupted vertical drop. The area is very popular with table lovers because of the two snow parks, the Magnola Upper - Park and the Lower - Park. The latter also includes a night lighting (much appreciated by young tourists).
