Marina di Ragusa and surroundings
Marina di Ragusa, a fraction of Ragusa a seaside resort of 3468 inhabitants, located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. During the summer, thanks to a strong tourist flow that increases from year to year, the population increases considerably. The town is located about 25 km from Ragusa in the south-east of Sicily and among the other nearest towns is Santa Croce Camerina, Donnalucata and Scicli and Punta Secca (the now famous seaside village thanks to the television episodes of Commissioner Montalbano). It is characterized by a long sandy beach that is interrupted to the west by the port and to the east just before the Irminio reserve. The economy of Marina di Ragusa, today, in recent years has shifted mainly to the tertiary sector, particularly tourism bathing. Historically known as a "fishing village" along its two waterfronts over the years many catering and hotel activities have been born, even of absolute value. Property rental prices are influenced by the summer season and reach figures above the regional average. Already in 2009, the Blue Flag was awarded to Marina di Ragusa by Fee, together with nearby Pozzallo. In 2010 both locations reconfirmed the previous year's prize, resulting in two of the four best beaches in Sicily (according to the Fee standard).
